Eastern Goldfields Historical Society
The old Boulder Municipal Power Station Building, Hamilton Street, Boulder WA (next to the Loopline Railway Park). The Society covers some 320,000 square kilometres of Western Australia and contains many important regional towns and centres such as; Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Coolgardie, Kambalda, Leonora-Gwalia, Laverton, Norseman, Leinster, Wiluna, Menzies and Sandstone. Literally hundreds of abandoned gold rush towns and mining centres are scattered throughout the Goldfields and make up a huge part of the vibrant history of our area. Our Society boasts one of Australia’s largest collections of historical Goldfields photographs and holds a comprehensive selection of books on the Goldfields and Western Australia; including local histories, biographies and references. We also hold numerous items and collections of historical significance to this vast region
Collections
Our Library is open to the public for assisted research by arrangement with our committee, however - books may only be borrowed by members of the Society. We also have a large collection of research paper items, which may be accessed by card index and computer database. Personnel researchers are welcome to utilise our facilities and requests for research assistance can be dealt with via correspondence, however a fee will be incurred for larger or ongoing requests. The Society has a pictorial history of the Eastern Goldfields and surrounding towns and districts. The collection is continually being added to and at present consists of more than 40,000 photographs and negatives, from early Goldrush days to more recent times. Photographs can be ordered in black & white for personal or publication use. Funds raised through sales and fees are used to maintain and further expand the collection. All photographs are processed on the premises in our own dark room.
